Our class teacher grouped myself and 8 other students together, and assigned us the music video of Arctic Monkey's 'I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor' to recreate. To start the pre production process, we sat as a group and watched the music video a few times and began repeatedly pausing it to create a detailed storyboard. We attempted to stick as closely to the original shots used as possible, resulting in shots lasting only a few seconds each. An artistic group member drew detailed sketches of the band and their positioning, with notes regarding the duration of each shot and the movement of the camera, to ensure that when referring to the storyboard each section would be accurate.
The following lesson, we assigned ourselves roles within the group; director, camera man, best boy, grip, gaffer and 4 band members. We talked through our strengths and weaknesses and chose the jobs that suited us best, I decided upon Director and this was agreed with by the rest of the group. However, a member was missing during this lesson and was upset with their role, so we reshuffled and I took up the role of drummer and co-director with Rhia.
When re-watching the music video, costumes which fit the genre of the original were sourced and each band member was briefed on what to wear for filming. Ben then booked the school drama room for filming after school, as the space and black backdrop suited our needs perfectly, along with its appropriate lighting - and was similar to the original video. I sourced instruments from our school's music department which matched those used in the original video, and secured them for the evening booked in the drama room for filming.
